Turn Your Ambition Into Achievement
As an entrepreneur, you will inevitably experience both failure and success in delivering targets and projects. Sure, while there are many variables that lead to a successful outcome, there are five indispensable and controllable variables that must be present in order to transform ambitions into achievement.
Let’s take a look at each one in greater detail.
Alignment
Establishing a clearly defined short and long-term set of objectives and having a plan to get there is critical.
Within a corporate structure, shared values are an important factor in ensuring everybody is aligned with the company’s purpose and goals. External stakeholder participation in the planning process can also go a long way to ensuring a business is fully aligned from top to bottom.
Capital
You might be surprised to learn that there is a direct link between available capital and attainable goals.
When a business is cash-positive, every decision seems to be a good one. When a business is cash-negative, it appears as if nothing goes exactly as planned. In other words, decision-making becomes challenging. The bottom line here is that capital undoubtedly impacts decision-making.
Team
Taking time to build the right team is essential. It is important to note, however, that skill set requirements change over time. The tell-tale signs of a good team are commitment, passion, and vision.
Leadership
Fostering a leadership environment within your team allows you to improve how you work. It also promotes ownership and encourages problem-solving.
Adaptability
The ability to adapt to change is absolutely essential. Ultimately, the question is not whether management is aware of all the myriad of variables that impact the business (factors such as competition, changes in key customer personnel, internal personnel, interest rates, the economy, talent availability, trends, etc). Rather, the real question is whether or not there are systems in place to recognize and respond to the critical influencers for your business.
For example, there is a direct correlation between the amount of time C-Suite executives spend in a key market and/or with key customers and business success. In terms of adapting to change, executive relocation often has the most significant impact on the go-to-market team. This level of market immersion can lead to a necessary pivot and correction within an organization in terms of focus, strategy development, and company culture. Even the most ambitious plans are just hallucinations without insightful planning. Take time to reach your goal(s) the right way.
