CBS Reviews: Getting By Was Getting Old
Situation
The owner of a machine shop specializing in custom metal fabrication engaged Corporate Business Solutions to change the way that he ran his business. “I started the company ten years ago, just me, some welding machines and very little money. We were now up to thirteen employees and $1.5m in revenue, but still experiencing cash flow issues. We were ‘getting by,’ but that was getting old, as we were all working too hard to just stay afloat.”
Process
When the CBS consultant came in, “the first thing he did was to remove me from the day-to-day duties of running this business. We promoted my production manager to general manager and trained him to take over everything that had been taking up my time.” The client was then able to focus on finding new customers, “which is what the company needed the most.”
The consultant “also implemented a new sales program with a few of my current employees. He worked with my office manager, trained her to work with the new cash management program that he gave her, in order to provide me with a weekly cash position and future cash-flow projection report, which was another thing that was consuming my time.”
Additionally, the consultant met with each of the client’s employees in order to help them understand their roles and responsibilities in helping to turn a profit. He explained what Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) would be utilized to measure their success, going forward.
Result
